ELENA ANTUL: The mind behind the Perfect Manicure Academy and Oops Nails Barcelona. An exclusive interview.

1. Elena, tell us, how did your journey in the nail industry begin? What inspired you to choose this profession?

— I started out just like most manicurists: working from home and then in different salons. At first, I lacked the budget for high-quality materials and professional tools, but I had an immense desire to create beauty and do my job with excellence. That's why I invested heavily in training, so that each of my jobs would be flawless.

2. How did the idea of ​​creating Perfect Manicure Academy come about? What was your main goal at the beginning?

— The idea came gradually as I developed my own salon and my client base grew. I felt the need to share my expertise and started teaching: first one person, then groups of three or four students. Over time, this escalated to opening a salon, a shop, and a full-fledged academy in my city. When we moved to Spain, we decided to continue here. It's a challenging path, but it's fascinating and rewarding.

3. The name "Perfect Manicure Academy" includes the word "Perfect." What does a "perfect manicure" mean to you?

— “Perfect Manicure” is a whole concept. It’s not just the final result on the nails. It’s an immaculate work surface, quality materials, rigorous sterilization, and the proper handling of tools. The client should never be at risk of infection. The professional’s appearance is also vital: clean attire and a pleasant workspace. And, of course, the manicure must be clean, safe, and without damaging the nail plate. At our Academy, we teach meticulous attention to detail.

4. What manicure and modeling techniques do you teach? What do you mainly focus on during the training?

— I've tried countless techniques and chosen the one that suits most clients: combination manicures. We teach it in both basic and advanced courses. We also provide training in the latest nail modeling techniques. We constantly update our programs. If you took a course with us a year ago, you'll find many new things today, because we never stop evolving.

5. Who are your courses for: beginners from scratch or professionals seeking to improve their skills?

— Our courses are ideal for both beginners and experts. Many of our students are young women who have moved from other countries and are looking for a career path. Learning the manicurist trade is a quick and affordable way to start generating income after completing the training. At the same time, we welcome experienced professionals who understand that to be in demand and successful, you need to keep learning.

6. Do you keep track of how many students have passed through the Academy? What achievements of your graduates make you most proud?

— Many of our students have opened their own salons or private studios. There are truly life-changing stories. For example, this profession helped one of my students retain custody of her children. She was going through a difficult divorce, and her ex-husband was trying to legally take their two children away. Thanks to obtaining a job as a certified manicurist, she was able to demonstrate her financial stability. Now she's a successful professional, and her children are still with her.

7. How do you support your students after they finish the course? Is there a community for graduates?

— Yes, the Academy has become a true community of friendship and professional networking. After the training, all the girls stay connected with us. If someone doesn't master a difficult technique the first time, they can come back after the course and practice it under the supervision of an instructor. We help with job searches, organize seminars, and professional events. Plus, students get special discounts at our OOPS NAILS store.

8. What advice would you give to girls who dream of a career in the nail industry but have fears or doubts?

The most important thing is to have a genuine desire. Never stop at just one course. New materials and techniques are released every month, so keep learning. This way, clients will value you as a professional and recommend you. If this profession is your dream, don't let anyone steal it from you. Just give it a try. By working and talking with clients, you'll quickly realize that this is where you belong.
