Secrets for an Impeccable Manicure

Achieving a long-lasting manicure depends not only on the color but also on perfect technical preparation. Here are the critical mistakes you must avoid to prevent chipping and ensure nail health.

1. Ignoring dehydration

Many confuse degreaser (cleanser) with dehydrator (nail prep). While the former removes surface grease, the dehydrator extracts moisture from the deeper layers of the nail. If you skip this step, residual moisture will prematurely cause air pockets.

2. Insufficient pterygium cleaning

Pterygium is that thin layer of skin attached to the nail, and it is the number one enemy of adhesion. If you don't clean the side "pockets" well and leave skin residue under the cuticle, the gel polish will be deposited on the skin and not on the nail, causing inevitable lifting in the cuticle area.

3. Overly aggressive filing

Nail health is the priority. Using high-abrasion files or buffers weakens the plate. On "over-filed" nails, the material has nowhere to anchor, as the keratin scales have been destroyed. Work gently, only lifting the adhesion channels.

4. Contact with water before the service

The "Russian" or dry manicure is queen for a reason. The nail plate is porous: it absorbs water and expands. When the gel is applied and then the nail dries, it returns to its original size, but the material does not, which generates internal tension and cracks.

5. Touching the nail after preparing it

Once degreased, the nail is considered "sterile." A simple touch with a finger to check for smoothness or to adjust hair brings back a layer of grease to the surface. If this happens, you must clean it again.
