From 1 May 2026, according to EU regulation 2026/78 known as Omnibus VIII and approved on 12 January 2026, the status of silver in cosmetics has been reviewed due to its classification as a category 2 reproductive toxicant.
What does this mean for the nail industry? The production and sale of all materials containing CI 77820 silver is prohibited. There is currently no official information on whether materials already purchased that contain this component can be used after May 1, 2026.
Because of this, brands are having clearance sales on products containing silver. We will also have discounts on many items in our store, which is an excellent opportunity for professionals to restock. However, we want to warn you that the legal status of these materials after May remains uncertain.
